CS371p Fall 2020: Kelvin Yu

Me, Kelvin Yu

What did you do this past week?

During this past week I was quite lazy an didn’t get much done at all. I mostly focused on recruiting and spamming medium level Leetcode questions. I tried to solve around five every single day, but I got quite burned out after a few days of grinding. As for schoolwork, I started working on my Network & Security project, but the instructions of the lab are quite confusing so my partner and I are a little stuck.

What’s in your way?

Recently, I’ve been swamped by projects, homework, recruiting, and midterms which has made me a little stressed out. It’s been getting more difficult setting aside time to do schoolwork and recruiting and balancing my free time.

What will you do next week?

This next week I’ll definitely need to start studying for the upcoming OOP exam. It’s unfortunate that I have a Network & Security exam on the same day as the first portion of the OOP exam, but I’m sure everything will be okay. I’ll also have to start working on the Allocator project sometime soon and not push it off until the last moment like last time.

If you read it, what did you think of The Open-Closed Principle?

I have not read the Open-Closed Principle as of yet.

What was your experience of iterator concepts, std::array, and std::vector? (this question will vary, week to week)

Regarding iterators, I have had some experience in previous classes with them, namely Python iterators in Software Engineering. As for arrays and vectors, I have used quite extensively as I am trying to use primarily C++ for competitive programming practice and recruiting practice.

What made you happy this week?

The League of Legends Worlds Championships group stage started earlier this week and most of the teams such as Gen G and G2 got out of their groups. TSM went 0–6 which made me a little sad, but the North America region tends to choke at worlds so I wasn’t expecting too much.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip-of-the-week would be investing into a better chair. When I first moved into my apartment I had a really cheaply made chair without any back support. I then invested in a Hyken Mesh Task Chair from Staples and its been so much more comfortable especially when I spend most of my day at my desk.
